#raizeldesign_parshapost was a year-long project. Every week, through one full cycle of the weekly Torah reading, I illustrated the name of the week's Torah portion, putting thought into the imagery and the style of each image to convey a message found in the Parshah and its name. As each image was completed, it was uploaded to Instagram accompanied by a short essay or poem. You can check them all out here.
With a weekly deadline, it wasn't always the easiest, but I'm so proud to have finished this project and to have learned so much while doing it.
Seven years later, I've returned to the series, this time bringing it to life through animation, one week at a time, same deadline as before. As the weeks went on, I started experimenting with sound design too, layering audio into the animations to give them even more life. This year, a couple of parshiyos that I'd illustrated separately the first time around were read together, so for those weeks I made three looping animations, one for each parsha individually, plus a combined piece marking how they're read as one this year. Just like the original series, each animated piece is accompanied by a dvar Torah on Instagram. Where you see a looping video alongside an illustration below, that's a piece from the original project I've now animated, tagged #raizeldesign_parshapost_animated. Revisiting work I made seven years ago, and finding a whole new way to tell it, has been a project all its own.
